Tagore, Slumdog, School

The TOI has two interesting headlines on the same day.

Tagore flunked school, St Xavier’s School reveals

Slumdog kids excel in exams

If the gentleman who dopped out of school ended up with a Nobel prize for literature, and kids with no schooling experience, excel in exams – isn’t there something wrong with our schools?

Or, maybe all is perfectly alright. I failed miserably in college too. Maybe there is a Nobel prize for me sometime in future. A Noble for blogging?

Why wait so long . I give a noble for blogging right now and I’m sure many more will want to give you one too! You are too good! :D

When you snuggle under the blanket reading Sidney Sheldon instead of igneous rocks…. you are bound to flunk. But if I remember right, you topped Class XII doing just that. The college results were simply because you were more interested in ‘other things’ than studies then. The degree was a necessary evil.

But I agree about the schooling flaws. We are trained to become parrots and nothing that we are taught ever comes in handy, except what we teach ourselves. Wish they would teach us how to learn by ourselves instead of stuffing our brains with info which will in any case become obsolete

Sidney Sheldon rocks. Igneous, whoever he was, didn’t.

I read the article, and was saddened to find out that the school has been rebuilt I hope to find some part of the school that my father went to in its original splendour when I get to India if ever
